All Mexia ISD campuses Placed on lockdown; One person of interest in ‘incident’ detained

MEXIA, Texas (KWTX) - A person of interest is in custody in an “incident” at Mexia High School and there is currently “no threat to Mexia ISD campuses,” the school district said.

Earlier Monday, the school district placed all campuses on lockdown. It now says early dismissal for all MISD campuses will be 1:30 pm today

“Mexia ISD will be running busses and normal routes at this time,” the district said.

A heavy police presence at Mexia High School, which is near the junior high school in the 1100 block of N. Ross Avenue.

Superintendent of Groesbeck ISD Dr. James Cowley tweeted its schools were on lockout due to reports of gunshots on a Mexia ISD campus.

The district's page said they would be conducting an early release at 1:30 p.m. Parents and guardians were instructed to pick up their children. It said buses would be on their normal routes.

The district said high school students were to leave the building through the main entrance only. Traffic control on Ross St. will be northbound only.
